Dag 10 - 21 juli

Een wat twijfelachtige dag voor een fatsoenlijke taak. Het duurt ook lang voordat er een taak is en het wordt dan een taak van 67 km uitgezet. Eerst in de vallei van Ager, dicht tegen de berg aan omdat het in het dal slechter zou zijn, en daarna naar het noorden naar de vallei van Tremp en Isona. Er staat erg veel wind op de start en de winddummy wordt aardig de lucht in geblazen na de start. Uiteindelijk haalt hij wel een aardige hoogte. Vlak voordat de eerste piloot wil starten wordt het window met een half uur vertraagd.

We zien weer een hoop spectaculaire starts en van sommige piloten vraag je je af of ze weten wat ze doen. Er zijn er die er direct na de start op starthoogte draaien en wat een hoop gedoe oplevert. Koos en Martin starten met de meute, maar Martin landt vrij snel. Rob, Tanno en Erik gaan snel achter elkaar, maar zo'n beetje als laatsten.

Het is een kwestie van mazzel, want er zijn makkelijke momenten en moeilijke. Ons team gaat het niet halen en hoewel Tanno en Rob op goal staan, hebben ze goal niet gehaald. Erik en Koos staan net voor goal aan de grond. In het klassement wordt het nu spannend (lees ook het officiele blog van de wedstrijd: www.ager2010.blogspot.com voor de feiten) want het gaat nu tussen Gerolf en Thomas, beiden uit Oostenrijk. De laatste heeft veel punten goed gemaakt en staat nog maar 128 punten achter op nummer 1.

Vandaag, vrijdag de 23ste, hebben we de laatste taak…

I’m not sure what the day is going to bring and if we will have a decent task. It takes a long time before the task has been set and it turns out to be only 67 km. First in the valley of Ager and only close to the mountain because they expect bad conditions in the valley, and then to the north to the valley of Tremp and Isona.There is a lot of wind on launch and the winddummy is blown into the air after launching. In the end he gets high. Before the first pilot wants to launch the window is postponed with half an hour. We again see a lot of spectaculair launches and some pilots make you wonder if they know what they are doing. There are those who turn directly after launching what makes it difficult for other pilots launching. Koos and Martin launch in the middle of the field, but Martin lands fairly quickly. Rob, Tanno and Erik launch after each other, but almost last.

It is a matter of luck, because there seem to be easy and difficult moments. Our team is nog making it and although Rob and Tanno are at goal, they didn’t make goal. Erik and Koos land just before goal. In the scores things are getting very exciting (you should also read the official blog www.ager2010.blogspot.com for the facts) because it is now between Gerolf and Thomas, both Austrians. Thomas gained a lot of points the last 2 tasks and he is only 128 points behind number one.

Alphons

Inmiddels heeft ook ons het onverwachte bericht van het ongeluk van Alphons bereikt. Het team is aangedaan en blij dat we vandaag niet hoeven te vliegen. We wensen zijn familie en (vlieg-)vrienden veel sterkte in deze moeilijke tijd.

The news of unexpectedly losing a flying friend has reached us now. We wish extend our sympathies to his family and (flying) friends.

Freaking Bloggers

As I have been so busy writing on my blog to the home front on the adventures of the Dutch team, their hang-waiting and flying activities, the results and rest day group outings and not to forget my silly finger accident (which according to the overall results number one pilot in the competition was the wrong finger…) I all forgot to write about this number one pilot!

So, I’m going to do a special on him today! Yes, this entry will all be about Gerolf (and not about ME). The reason for this is his so justified piece on the Oz Report on us freaking bloggers, that I only noticed after checking the official www.Ager2010.blogspot.com (sorry Davis). As I was looking for how the Brittish, Ozzies, Germans and Slovenian pilots where doing and what gossip is going on here in Ager. Because isn’t that what blogs are all about: a keeping up to date of the activities of the bloggers’ petty lives?

I do my best to film (and thus video blog) Gerolfs comments during the briefing and the handing out of the day price (but then that might start to bore after a couple of times) and his unofficial conversations with the officials.

Now the problem is that I don’t see a lot of Gerolf these days (pics where taken in 2005 in Croatia). On launch he is busy doing task advisory stuff. He takes off early and usually has left goal by the time my team members have reached it, I’m afraid. To get the results I still have to rely on the list posted after 22 hrs, like everybody else, or read the mailed copy. So what can I add, next to the official site and their very nice blog?

So I have the perfect solution: Gerolf, go blog yourself ;-). Do as all the other reporters, writers and part-time poets and write all about yourself so you can check at any time what you’ve been up to. And it can be all about YOU, YOU and YOU. And I’ll just love to read all about it how it’s going to end with the mighty Austrians and any future adventures that you're going to be up to.

The song is especially for YOU, just exchange the word ‘song’ for ‘blog’ ;-)
