La Déesse 7: 19 May And how fast the weather changes on Tegelberg

Het is vandaag dag 10 van de wedstrijd. Met nog 4 dagen te gaan en de wetenschap dat donderdag een regendag gaat worden, zijn we wat blij om te horen dat we naar boven mogen. Boven aangekomen bevinden we ons echter in de wolken! En hoewel de zon zich toch nog eens laat zien, krijgen we een afwisseling van hagel, sneeuw, zon en wolken. We vermaken ons goed boven want we zijn bezig met vliegen, maar zorgen maken we ons toch.

De organisatie is ontzettend behulpzaam; onze vleugels worden met een bezem sneeuwvrij gemaakt en er zijn voldoende doekjes om het zeil af te drogen. Dat mag best gezegd worden: complimenten aan de organisatie.

Omdat het voorspelde window zo klein is, krijgen we eerst een taak van 34 km en later toch nog van 37. Een en ander heeft er mee te maken dat we naar het westen meer kans maken om boven te blijven dan naar het oosten. Maar het ziet er niet goed uit. Op een bepaald moment gaat zelfs de gondel niet meer vanwege de wind gedurende een half uur.

De weerman Volker laat ons op internet zien dat het occlusiefront sneller komt dan verwacht en met een stormwaarschuwing bij de Beierse meren lijkt het lot van deze dag bezegeld. Geen taak maar wel vrijvliegen.

Het is heerlijk in de lucht. Rustig soar ik wat rond de start om boven het kasteel ineens weer naar wolkenbasis te gaan. Dicht bij de wolk gaat het ineens heel hard omhoog en ik speer weg naar de rand. Na wat rond het kasteel gevlogen te hebben land ik na een uurtje. Heerlijk gevlogen en veel plezier gehad op de berg. Wat wil een mens nog meer?

Today is the tenth day of the competition. With just 4 days to go and knowing that Thursday will be a rainy day, we are glad to hear that we can go up. On the mountain we are in the middle of a cloud! And although the sun comes out, we are treated to a mixture of hail, snow, sun and clouds. We are enjoying ourselves because we are preparing for the flight, but we do worry. The organisation is very helpfull; our wings are made snowfree with a broom and there are enough cloths available to dry our sails. So it is something to say out loud: I have great compliments for the organisation.

Because the predicted window is so small, we first get a 34 km task and later it changes to a 37 km task. This has to do with the fact that we have a far bigger chance to stay up towards the west than towards the east. But it doesn't look good. Then even the gondel doesn't go down anymore because of the wind for half an hour.

Weatherman Volker shows us on the internet that the occlusionfront is coming sooner than expected and with a stormwarning at the Bavarian lakes, the fate of the day is no task but free flying.

It is wonderful in the air. I soar easily at launch and gain enough hight over the castle to get back to cloudbase. Close to the cloud the lift is very strong and I flee to the edge of the cloud. After having flown around the castle I land one hour later. I had a great flight and have had lots of fun on the mountain. What else do you want?
